Yanny and I really don't understand why anyone would hear differently

WTF? I hear a very clear "Laurel." This has to be some kind of trick where it is playing different audio tracks randomly. The two words are nothing alike.

Tha fuck? I just played this from my phone without telling my wife what to listen for. She said "yammy". It's clearly Laurel for me.

I heard Yanney at first, but once I started listening several times I realized that there’s a deeper tone that is saying Laurel so if you have tinnitus hearing loss at higher frequencies, you’ll always hear Laurel. That’s my take on it.

I only listened through shitty laptop speakers, so I'm sure a lot of frequencies were getting cut off.

From my phone, it's laurel, and no way to possibly debate it.

Without a doubt, I heard Laurel. Not even close.

Last night I heard Laurel and at the same time my wife heard Yanny. This morning I hear Yanny.

At first, I made the same assumption as you, but that can't be right. My wife hears Yanny and I hear Laurel. My 13 year old, hears Laurel, like I do, but my other two kids hear Yanny. Age (or gradual hearing loss) apparently has nothing to do with it.

Several lingual experts have weighed in on it and there is no clear answer yet.
