had a chance to talk to my player personnel buddy last night for the first time in awhile. He said his team has Trent Richardson as the best overall player on the board. They have Upshaw as a second round prospect but said that it's very close. Said Barron might be the most safe pick in the entire draft.

Great @slmandel column on overrated/underrated draft prospects. Bama C William Vlachos in round 7? Child, please. He'll start for 10 years.

rumors today that the JETS will trade with Cleveland to get Trent. Not sure I would like that move, the Jets are a mess and their OC likes a 2 back system so he would share carries with Shon Greene.

Interesting revelation RB Trent Richardson said Jets contacted him Sunday to make sure his info was right in case they trade up from No. 16

Rich Cimini ‏ @RichCimini Reply Retweet Favorite · Open
Trent Richardson is the No. 1 player on the Jets' draft board, ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reported today. #Jets

Full info:

Quote:
Underrated: William Vlachos, Alabama

Someone please explain how one of the cogs of two national championship offenses is deemed a seventh-round prospect, if that. Barrett Jones was the most talented and versatile Alabama offensive lineman, but Vlachos was the three-year starting center for a team that consistently wore down opposing defenses and moved the pile for star backs Mark Ingram and Richardson. Vlachos is also the kind of smart, charismatic leader teams want in the locker room. I'd give him a chance.

He also has:

Quote:
Overrated: Dre Kirkpatrick, Alabama

It's hard to nitpick any of Alabama's five-star/All-SEC/BCS champion defenders, but the few teams that managed to bust some big plays on the Tide's defense the past two years often did so at the expense of the gambling Kirkpatrick. He's an incredible athlete and definitely cut down on the mistakes last season -- I'm just not sure I'd take him with a high first-round pick. I certainly wouldn't take him before Alabama teammates Courtney Upshaw, Dont'a Hightower or Mark Barron, which seems like a possibility.

FINAL UPDATE: April 25th, 2012
NewEnglandPatriotsDraft.com

Quote:
...4. Cleveland Browns
Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama (Scouting Report)
Ryan Tannehill will be an option here, but Richardson is a very safe pick and the tops at his position. Replacing the departed Peyton Hillis and injury-riddled Montario Hardesty has got be a priority...

...11. Kansas City Chiefs
Dont’a Hightower, LB, Alabama (Scouting Report)
Hightower doesn’t get enough respect in my opinion. He can play ILB, OLB as well as rush from the DE spot. Think back to when Adalius Thomas wasn’t a punchline, and this is the sort of multi-faceted prospect you might get in Hightower...

...14. Dallas Cowboys
Mark Barron, S, Alabama (Scouting Report)
Adding Barron to the Cowboys defensive backfield should give it a stabilizing presence. Barron can play both safety positions and supports the run as well as covering. Cowboys will probably have to trade up to secure this pick...

...17. Cinci Bengals (via Oakland)
Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama (Scouting Report)
The Bengals pass defense is going to get even better. Kirkpatrick’s length makes up for a few flaws in technique, but there is no denying his ability to help in run support. Adding Kirkpatrick this late would be a steal...

...21. Cincinnati Bengals
Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama (Scouting Report)
I love Upshaw as a prospect – he has been in our top fifteen picks for months. Unfortunately, some of his short-comings are starting to show. He doesn’t have ideal size nor is he an incredibly fluid athlete. While that might keep him out of the top ten, the Bengals could really have a fun time using Upshaw in multiple positions in the front seven...

I think Upshaw is top 20. I think teams will look at his onfield performance and account for his intangibles (degree of difficulty in Bama's system and coaching). In any case, I hope two of our guys don't go to the Bungles.

well the Upshaw issues did play out...I feel bad for the kid since he was in NYC. He'll get drafted today and hopefully come into the league ready to cause some pain and play with a chip on his shoulder. Hightower would have gone to Pitt and that could have helped Upshaw to go to the Pats but Pitt couldn't pass up DeCastro.
